In March, the students of Mooreland”s Latin program participated in the 2012 National Latin Exam, a Latin prize exam administered to over 148,000 middle and high school students from all fifty states and thirteen foreign countries. We are proud to recognize three MHS students who received honors from the American Classical League for their performance on the exam:
Seventh grader Brianna Gambacini received a certificate of achievement on the Intro level exam.
Seventh grader Ben Czuprinski received a ribbon and certificate for outstanding achievement on the Intro level exam.
Eighth grader Brian Tomasco received a gold medal and Summa Cum Laude certificate on the Latin II level exam.
Science Fair judging and display will take place in the Mooreland Hill gymnasium April 4-5th. Don’t miss it!
On Wednesday, April 4, the 4/5 MAG and the sixth and seventh grade will be traveling to New Haven to see a performance of MatheMagic at the Shubert Theater. Accompanying them will be Mr. Dooman, Mrs. Amodio, and Mrs. Fischer.
Christine Beck will be working with all Mooreland Hill students as our Poet-in-Residence for two days this week. Ms. Beck is currently studying for her Masters in Poetry at Southern Connecticut University. She will be working with our grade four, five, and six students on emotional poetry. Seventh and eighth grades will be writing odes and working with figurative language. We welcome Ms. Beck to Mooreland Hill!
On Saturday, February 25th, Mooreland Hill School hosted its 15th annual Girls Invitational Basketball Classic. Cheshire Academy, Independent Day School, Ethel Walker School, and Chase Collegiate joined Mooreland in competing for this year’s championship. Mooreland finished 5th after a tough morning of play but stayed determined throughout the tournament. Independent Day School emerged as tournament champions, with Chase Collegiate and Ethel Walker finishing second and third. MHS congratulates 8th grader Briana Lugo, from Plainville, for her selection to the All-Tournament Team and for her second place finish in the foul shooting contest.
